Gurugram based sports and fitness company Tabono Sports, which consults and organises marathons, has raised pre-series A round of funding from Inflection Point Ventures (IP Ventures) that values the firm Rs 17 crore.
Tabono’s co-founder Abhishek Mishra said the funds will be utilised to expand business development, marketing and technology teams to operate projects it has planned across India with a focus on Tier II and Tier III cities.
With developed properties like the Millennium City Marathon (Gurugram), Lucknow City Half Marathon and Madurai 10km Run, Tabono is currently active across these three cities. It aims to bring marathon running to multiple cities and towns in India and inspire more people to run.
Launched in 2016 by Mishra, who is also an ‘Ultraman’ finisher from India and a three-time Ironman triathlete, Tabono is an economical running company making fitness options accessible across Tier I and Tier II cities in India.
“With the current team of professional runners, we are well poised to understand the user requirement and develop solutions catering to their need. Although a lot is happening in the fitness space within the country, marathons seem to be a simple, scalable and economical solution to a large population size,” Mishra said.
“The fitness market in India is evolving, and within that, marathon properties are coming up in a big way. Abhishek’s expertise in this space adds tremendous value to the proposition.
